In the third installment of this extensive series, we will analyze the next 33 minutes of Father Carreira's lecture, where he will delve even further into the mathematics of the cosmos and the central position of man in Creation.

We continue with our exhaustive analysis of the masterful lecture by the eminent astrophysicist, philosopher and theologian, Father Dr. Manuel Carreira S.J. In this third installment, we address minutes 67 to 100 of his video presentation.

Having established the absolute chemical requirements of biological life, Father Carreira now takes us into the depths of astrophysics and particle physics. With mathematical precision, it demonstrates how the four forces of the universe are millimetrically adjusted to allow our existence, and how the final destiny of the cosmos—thermal death—completely lacks logical sense if the theological dimension and the immortal spirit of the human being are ignored.

Dr. María Victoria Ibáñez-Soto: Father Carreira, materialist atheists insist that our universe is an irrelevant cosmic accident. However, when we look at fundamental parameters, such as the nuclear forces that hold atoms together, we find a frighteningly precise fit. What would happen if the relationship between these forces varied slightly?

Father Dr. Manuel Carreira: "How much is the strong nuclear force stronger than the electromagnetic force? 137 times. A very strange number. Why does it have to be 137 and not 100 or 150 or 200? It is calculated what would happen if that number is changed: there could be no life. The oxygen, carbon, and calcium atoms would not be formed, all the atoms that are necessary for a living being."

Dr. Ibáñez-Soto: And as for the weak nuclear force, the one that we tend to underestimate in its importance?

Father Dr. Manuel Carreira: "If there were no weak nuclear force, no more elements than hydrogen could be formed... And it is the weak nuclear force that does something very striking: a star much larger than the sun, at the end of its evolution, explodes like a gigantic nuclear bomb... in that explosion is where heavy metals are produced and spread throughout the universe."

Dr. Ibáñez-Soto: That is to say that the essential elements for our technical and biological existence come directly from the agony of massive stars.

Father Dr. Manuel Carreira: "If you have a gold ring, it is ash from a star that probably exploded millions of years before the Earth was formed. If you have an iron artifact, that iron comes from a star much larger than the sun that at the end of its life exploded and made the Earth have an iron core that is a third of its mass."

Dr. Ibáñez-Soto: I understand that this gigantic iron core is not a mere geological ornament, but a critical defense barrier for the survival of the planet.

Father Dr. Manuel Carreira: "If there were no iron core we would not live here, because that iron core acts like a magnet and protects us from cosmic radiation with a magnetic field. And neither Venus nor Mercury nor Mars have this iron core... and they have no magnetic field."

Dr. Ibáñez-Soto: And if we add to this our position in the solar system...
